Hello everyone! My name is Keith Kristynik. I live in Houston, Texas. Yesterday I began trying to trace my roots and have not been able to think of anything else. My mother, Louise Shibest (Szybist), was of Polish ancestry and my father, Jeffrey Kristynik, was of Czech ancestry--I'll get to his side eventually, too. ha!! Both my parents have passed away. I came along later in their lives so most of my aunts and uncles have passed away also. I'm a bit of a historian at heart, so I think I have found a new hobby.
My mother was born in Anderson, Texas to Louis Shibest and Annie Mentlewski--both are buried in the St. Stanislaus Cemetery. Because of this site, I've learned a great deal about my grandfather's background, even estimating when his father, Theophilus Szybist must have arrived in Texas. I must say, James, I have found more information about my family here than I have anywhere else. Thank you so much for all your hard work. I know it is a passion of yours, but still. Being able to connect with my ancestors in this way has allowed me to reconnect with my mother, whom I miss dearly every day of my life. I can't tell you what joy this has brought me.
I have just begun this process. I have one aunt living and plan to speak with her as there are some major gaps I'd like to fill. Finding out the names of some of my ancestors has led to even more questions--I'm sure that his how these endeavors work. I would love to trace all this back as far as I can. I also plan to make some trips to Anderson (to visit St. Stanislaus), Chappel Hill, maybe Bremond, where I think my great grandfather Theophilus may be buried. I have loads of questions, but I am trying to discover as much as I can on my own.
If anyone here has any suggestions, tips, stories, PLEASE share. I'm having a blast with all this. I've been scouring all I can find, but any shortcuts would be appreciated.
Again, thank you James and everyone associated with the site.
