I started using the computer for genealogy reasearch and documentation somewhere around 1989, long before 'everybody' had a computer on their desk. As a member of the Compuserve Genealogy Forum in the early 90's, I followed the genealogy software discussions, especially posts by a young man named Bob Velke who later wrote the TMG software. I have been using this software since the beta version .99 was released in early 1993. When version 1.0 for DOS was released later that year, I imported my old Roots database to TMG and haven't looked back since. I have played with the demos of most of the other commercial programs over the years, but I haven't seen anything that would make me change. The thing I like most about The Master Genealogist is that you can enter and document your data your way, either very simply, very detailed or somewhere in between. In addition to data, you can store photo's and multimedia and link them to people, families or places. The software has great search capabilities and can output many different kinds of reports including narrative type reports using the built in custom sentence generator. If you're serious about genealogy and looking for a top notch database program, try TMG. More info can be found on the Wholly Genes Website
